Treatment Advocacy Center's core values are:
Treatment
TAC prioritizes treatment for those with serious mental illnesses (SMI) above all else. These mental illnesses that are often characterized by psychotic symptoms and anosognosia (lack of awareness of the illness) include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe forms of major depression.
Policy
TAC is committed to ensuring each state has the necessary laws, policies, funding, and facilities (e.g. hospital beds and treatment facilities) in place to effectively implement voluntary, as well as involuntary, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and decrease homelessness, jailings, suicide, violence, and other devastating consequences caused by lack of treatment.
Families
TAC staff and resources support and educate families, especially those who are in crisis and seek guidance about how to navigate the “system,” to obtain care and treatment for their loved one suffering from a severe mental illness. TAC works with families to achieve its policy goals.
Passion
TAC employees and Board members are deeply passionate about TAC’s mission. Often a family member of someone with SMI themselves, they are dedicated to bringing about positive changes for the millions of Americans who are the psychiatrically most ill and most challenging to treat, and their families.
Independence
TAC is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, guided by evidence-based research. TAC does not accept funding from companies or entities involved in the sale, marketing, or distribution of pharmaceutical products.
