(June 14, 2017) The Treatment Advocacy Center is dedicated to eliminating barriers to the timely and effective treatment of severe mental illness. This is because we are aware that the consequences of non-treatment are a major concern.
When untreated, people with severe mental illness are at high risk for a number of negative outcomes that profoundly impact them. These include, homelessness, suicide and victimization, among others.
The human, social and economic impact of not treating serious mental illness is beyond calculation. Through our evidence and research, we are better able to quantify these consequences, and through our work in fixing the system we are able to increase treatment access to help people with serious mental illness avoid these consequences.
