Threats to Care & Treatment for People with Serious Mental Illness

(May 5, 2017) Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act - a bill that would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and overhaul the healthcare system.

Because this bill would allow denial of insurance based on preexisting conditions, and eliminate mandatory provision of mental health benefits, it would remove necessary protections and access to care for people with serious mental illness.

This bill is a very real threat to recent gains we have made to provide better care.

But there is opportunity to fix this. As the process moves to the Senate, we must demand the continuing protection of access to healthcare for people with serious mental illness.

Get engaged and stay engaged. Call and email your Senators, and tell them it is unacceptable to deny lifesaving care to millions of people with serious mental illness.
