A Bed Instead Advocacy Campaign Launches — Take the Pledge

(Oct. 3, 2016) A new era in advocacy begins today for the Treatment Advocacy Center with the launch of our new A Bed Instead campaign. We're expanding our advocacy to support the 8.1 million Americans with serious mental illness and their families. And their communities.

What's at stake is more access to inpatient beds for people with serious mental illness. Because with the right services and support, people with serious mental illness can stay out of jail and off the streets, living healthy lives.

What You Can Do

You can learn all about the campaign by visiting aBedInstead.org. Watch the video that shows what happens to people with serious mental illness when psychiatric beds are not available — and what happens with treatment and support.

You will also find compelling stories from real people who explain, in their own words, why A Bed Instead matters. You’ll be moved by:

  • Michele Hick’s story of being locked out of her brother Michael’s care
  • Michael Gaeta’s story about his mother’s evil spirits
  • Marcie McSwane’s story of her brother’s struggle with mental illness

Take the Pledge

Step up and show your support for more hospital beds. Take the Treatment Advocacy Center PLEDGE to support more inpatient beds for people with serious mental illness.

Share the A Bed Instead video on your social media channels Twitter and Facebook. Use the hashtag #aBedInstead when you post.
